June 23, 2012 is The Great American Backyard Campout, which is sponsored by the National Wildlife Federation.
The Great American Backyard Campout is part of the special event series from National Wildlife Federation’s Be Out There™ movement. The “Be Out There Movement” is a campaign to expose children to outdoor activities and help instill within them, a love for Nature. Check out the video from their website below…
Just the other weekend, I had a backyard camping adventure with my two daughters and their friend. We Roasted marshmallows and made smores around our backyard fire-pit. We told silly jokes and just enjoyed being outside in the dark. The girls had a great time sleeping in the tent and best of all it was very easy to set up and take down “camp”. Of course it wasn’t quite the same as going to a State or National Park but it was really a good time for all of us.
Even if you decide you aren’t able to participate on June 23rd, you can use the NWF’s “Activity Finder” to help generate ideas of different activities that you can do outdoors with your children or friends anytime of the year.
