I guess by the title of this post you can pretty much tell I’m not that into football. Some years I do watch the Superbowl, but I really don’t go out of my way to watch it. So, if your like me, on the fence and looking for a few good reasons to blow it off for something different, here are 3 that I came up with…
1. Rather than watch others exercise, do it yourself.
Get out there and experience the outdoors. Hiking can be a great way to get exercise and to see some great scenery. A quick Google search for hikes in your area should produce something for nearly everyone, so GO FOR IT!
2. Eat less junk food.
According to studies Superbowl Sunday is second-biggest food-consumption day, following only Thanksgiving. According to the National Chicken Council, Americans will consume 1.25 billion chicken wings this Superbowl Sunday. Have you ever been to a Superbowl party that didn’t have a huge amount of junk food and snacks? Me either, so you could do yourself a favor by skipping the food and taking a hike.
3. Have the trails to yourself.
Each year the Superbowl draws more viewers than the last, and over the past few years, the Superbowl has had over 111 Million viewers. If even only 1% of those 111 Million people may be occasional hikers , that’s 1 million less people out on the trails. So, if your the type of person that enjoys hiking with few people around, this may be the best opportunity of the year to go on a hike or two that you might usually consider too crowded.
Well, I don’t know if I’ve convinced you to skip the “Big Game” and take a hike or not, but if I haven’t I hope you enjoy watching the game… and eat a few of those wings for me!
